| Abstract | Purpose-oriented learning represents an educational approach through which students are encouraged to connect academic experiences with personally meaningful goals, values, future aspirations, and broader social or professional contributions. University education extends beyond the acquisition of disciplinary knowledge because it also provides an important developmental context in which students explore their abilities, clarify personal values, strengthen confidence, and construct a coherent sense of identity. The present study examines the relationship between purpose-oriented learning and positive identity development among university students. A quantitative correlational research design is proposed to investigate how meaningful academic engagement, reflective learning, future orientation, goal connection, and perceived social relevance of education are associated with indicators of positive identity development. The proposed study focuses on undergraduate students enrolled across diverse academic programs and considers purpose-oriented learning as a multidimensional educational experience that may influence both academic engagement and personal development. The illustrative findings suggest that students who experience stronger connections between their academic learning and personal purpose may demonstrate greater self-understanding, value clarity, confidence, autonomy, future direction, and perceived personal growth. The findings further indicate that reflective learning and meaningful academic engagement may play an important role in helping students interpret their educational experiences and recognize their relevance to future goals. Purpose-oriented learning may therefore provide students with a framework for understanding not only what they are learning but also why that learning matters within their developing personal and professional identities. The study highlights the importance of creating higher education environments that encourage reflection, experiential learning, and mentoring, goal-setting, and meaningful academic participation. Such approaches may help students develop stronger connections between education and personal purpose while supporting positive identity formation. The study concludes that purpose-oriented learning can serve as a valuable component of student development when academic experiences are intentionally connected with meaningful goals, personal values, future aspirations, and opportunities for purposeful engagement. |
